Oreoluwa Osonuga, a 33-year-old poultry farmer, was seized by armed individuals at the Ikenne Farm Settlement in Ogun State. The incident occurred around 12:05 p.m. on Sunday when attackers intercepted his vehicle, fired shots at it, and abducted him into the nearby forest.
Seye Kehinde, the chairman of the farm settlement, confirmed the event on Monday. Security agencies were notified promptly, leading to a deployment of soldiers from Ilese to search the surrounding woodlands, though these efforts have yet to yield success. This event has caused significant alarm among local residents, especially since a similar kidnapping occurred in the same vicinity just four months ago.
The abductors contacted the victim’s family on Sunday evening via Osonuga’s mobile phone, setting a N500 million ransom for his safe return. By Monday, the family reported no further communication from the captors. Prof. Soga Osonuga, an uncle of the victim, expressed the family’s deep distress, noting that his nephew was simply working to contribute to local food production. He urged the government and law enforcement to accelerate rescue efforts.
