The Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Taraba State Government a two-week deadline to fulfill pending agreements, warning that failure to act will lead to a strike. Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, the local union chairman, confirmed this decision after a meeting of the union’s congress on Thursday.
Mbave clarified that the 14-day window is a final notice for compliance rather than an opening for new discussions. He urged both the state government and the university’s management to resolve these issues promptly, noting that the staff’s restraint should not be viewed as an acceptance of the status quo. The move aligns with instructions from the national body regarding the neglect of the 2025 ASUU-Federal Government agreement.
The union leader criticized the government’s failure to honor these terms, describing it as a breach of good-faith bargaining. The countdown for this ultimatum started on August 13, 2026, and concludes on August 26, 2026. Key requirements include the full execution of the 2025 agreement and the settlement of all outstanding payments dating back to January 2026. The union hopes these actions will prompt authorities to prevent a shutdown of the university’s academic operations.
