Taraba Chief Judge Prioritizes Judicial Modernization and Efficiency

Taraba Chief Judge Joel Agya is spearheading judicial reforms, including the integration of artificial intelligence, to streamline court processes and boost public confidence in the justice system.

Justice Joel Agya, the Chief Judge of Taraba State, recently highlighted that current judicial reforms are focused on fostering excellence and accelerating the delivery of justice throughout the region. Speaking at the 2026 Law Week hosted by the Wukari branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Agya addressed the conference theme, which explored whether the judiciary effectively serves the common citizen and legal professionals.

The Chief Judge acknowledged ongoing obstacles such as infrastructure limitations and case backlogs but emphasized that the state remains dedicated to restoring public trust. Strategies include updating procedural guidelines, implementing digital systems, and providing ongoing training for judicial staff. Notably, judges in the Taraba State High Court received training in artificial intelligence this past June to streamline court operations.

During the event, Agya praised the local bar association for facilitating discussions on the role of the courts in modern society. He also expressed gratitude to the Wukari branch for naming their secretariat in his honor. Hassan Saubana, the chairman of the local NBA branch, reiterated that the event was designed to improve cooperation between legal practitioners and the judiciary to ensure a more efficient legal system for all residents.
