Swansea Council Approves Sale of Swansea.com Stadium to Local Football Club

Swansea Council has reached a deal to sell the Swansea.com Stadium to Swansea City, a move the club claims will provide financial stability and support their ambition to return to the Premier League.

Swansea Council has finalized an agreement to sell the Swansea.com Stadium to Swansea City, a decision the club believes will secure its long-term future. The Championship football club, which has called the venue home since it replaced the Vetch Field in 2005, entered negotiations with the local authority to finalize the purchase. The stadium was originally constructed by the council for £27 million, with the club assuming operational management in 2018.

Council leader Rob Stewart stated that the agreed sale price exceeds a fair open-market valuation. According to a report presented to the cabinet, the deal includes a significant initial payment alongside contingent fees tied to potential promotion, as well as continued benefits from hospitality and ticket revenue. Club ownership, which includes notable investors such as Luka Modric and Snoop Dogg, intends to use the asset to attract further investment and bolster the club’s prospects of returning to the Premier League.

Although the council typically retains ownership of such assets, officials determined this sale was the correct course of action. The local authority will keep planning control over the surrounding area. Swansea City chief executive Tom Gorringe described the acquisition as a critical strategic milestone that allows the organization to manage its own destiny. The club has been the stadium’s sole occupant since the Ospreys rugby team relocated in 2025.
