Tosin Agbeyangi, a 45-year-old caterer, was taken into custody following a violent confrontation between suspected cultists and police officers in the Mafoluku district of Oshodi, Lagos. The incident occurred late at night when a group attempted a reprisal attack against rivals they blamed for the recent murder of an associate named Samuel.
Agbeyangi admitted that his group traveled from a birthday party to locate rivals near the residence of an NURTW leader known as Koko Zaria. He claimed that an associate named Temidayo discharged a firearm, prompting police on patrol to return fire. Agbeyangi was struck in the leg and later apprehended by officers who tracked bloodstains to a nearby canal. Authorities recovered a locally crafted pistol and a Browning magazine with live ammunition from the suspect.
The arrested man denied being commissioned by union leaders but acknowledged that local gang tensions are split between factions identifying as the Oluomo Nation and the Koko Zaria Nation. Lagos State Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest and stated that ongoing efforts are underway to track down the remaining gang members. She also issued a stern warning to those threatening public safety.
