Survivor Recounts How He Escaped Plateau Mob That Killed Friends En Route to Wedding
Abas Rufa’i, one of the survivors of the brutal mob attack on June 20 in Plateau State’s Mangun community, has shared a harrowing account of how he narrowly escaped and alerted soldiers who later rescued fellow wedding guests.
Rufa’i, speaking during a visit by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to victims receiving treatment at the 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, described his escape as nothing short of a miracle.
He was among 31 passengers from the Basawa-Anguwan Rimi area of Zaria, Kaduna State, who were travelling in an Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) bus en route to Qua’an Pan LGA for a wedding ceremony when they were ambushed in Mangu LGA. littlewitchb_tch rihanna nude
Rufa’i recounted that the bus had briefly stopped by the roadside to ask for directions. As he approached some locals nearby, he sensed immediate hostility in their expressions and instinctively decided to turn back without saying a word.
“Just as I turned away, I heard someone say, ‘We should kill them all and burn the vehicle,’” he said. Chaos erupted moments later as the group began attacking the bus. Despite the driver’s effort to flee, the road had already been blocked with logs and heavy stones.
In the confusion, Rufa’i quietly stepped back, removed his outer robe to blend in, and managed to slip away unnoticed as the attackers set the bus ablaze with passengers still trapped inside.
“I flagged down a passing okada and asked to be taken to the police station. I told the rider it was a personal emergency,” he explained. Midway through the ride, Rufa’i spotted a military checkpoint and directed the rider to stop. The motorcyclist quickly turned back upon seeing the soldiers, but Rufa’i rushed over and raised the alarm.
Soldiers promptly mobilized to the scene, arriving to find the vehicle in flames. They managed to rescue around 18 people with varying degrees of injuries, while several others had already been killed.
