On Monday, Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei designated Revolutionary Guards general Ali Abdollahi as the nation’s military chief. This move includes the appointment of a new commander for the Revolutionary Guards, effectively reshaping the country’s defense leadership. Abdollahi formerly directed the Khatam al-Anbiya, the central command responsible for coordinating joint military operations.
An official notice on Khamenei’s website confirmed that Major General Ali Abdollahi is now the chief of staff for the armed forces. Additionally, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has been named Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and promoted to the rank of major general. These are the first significant military assignments under Khamenei since he succeeded his father, who was killed in strikes conducted by the US and Israel.
Abdollahi has maintained a combative stance during the current conflict. Earlier this month, he warned neighboring nations that any country acting as a defensive barrier for American interests would face direct military consequences.
