Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has faced a wave of mixed public reactions after revealing he has aligned himself with the Rainbow Coalition. This political movement was established by Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, with an eye toward the 2027 general elections.
Fubara made the declaration this past Wednesday while officiating at the ground-breaking event for the RIVEN Medical Industries Project located in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt. During his address, the governor confirmed his return to Wike’s political camp and formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the presidency, as well as OK Chinda for the future governorship of Rivers State.
Inviting stakeholders and residents to embrace reconciliation, Fubara requested that the state move past its recent political turmoil. He emphasized that unity is essential for the region’s socio-economic progress. Despite his plea for peace, his base of support appears fractured. While a faction of his followers views the move as a strategic necessity, others have expressed deep frustration, labeling the decision as a cowardly act that effectively signals the end of his political influence.
