Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State organized a street protest this Monday to oppose reported efforts to remove their governorship candidate, Omar Suleiman. This marks the second time in a week that supporters have gathered to voice their concerns, following an initial demonstration by the Frontier Movement 774 on July 22.
Joshua Buba, representing the Adamawa Forward Political Organisation, stated that the scheme is being coordinated in Abuja. He firmly rejected the possibility of replacing a candidate who participated in the party primaries with someone who did not go through the formal nomination process. Buba issued a stern warning to those involved, suggesting that the local party members would escalate their opposition if the attempts persist.
Despite widespread rumors implicating presidential flag bearer Atiku Abubakar in the plot, the protesters did not accuse him directly, maintaining respect for his position. The controversy is reportedly linked to the fact that Suleiman—known as Omarana—was originally backed by former National Vice-Chairman Babachir Lawal, who remains in conflict with Atiku. Representatives for Atiku, including media aide Phrank Shaibu, have dismissed these claims as groundless, insisting that the former vice-president remains committed to internal democratic processes.
