Super League has officially acknowledged receipt of an investment proposal from the Australian Rugby League Commission. The 14 clubs within the league were notified of this offer on Thursday, although Rugby League Commercial has kept the specific terms private. These negotiations have been progressing since last year.
NRL Chairman Peter V’landys previously suggested that Super League requires new revenue streams to avoid potential financial instability. While some feared the partnership might cause an exodus of talent from the UK, NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo rejected these claims as groundless. Abdo emphasized that the goal is to strengthen the sport in Europe rather than turning the competition into a minor feeder league, characterizing the arrangement as a strategic partnership instead of a takeover.
Rodri Jones, the head of RL Commercial, has described the ongoing dialogue as positive. He identified the NRL as a logical collaborator and the primary party in current investment discussions. This news follows Hull KR’s historic victory in the 2025 Grand Final, which marked them as the fifth club to claim the Super League title.
