Super Eagles Climb Three Spots in FIFA Rankings Despite World Cup Disqualification
Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, have moved up three positions in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, November 20, ascending from 41st to the 38th global rank, even after failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria retains the fifth spot in Africa, trailing Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
The rise is attributed to the team’s results during the review period, which included a 4-1 victory over the Panthers of Gabon in the World Cup play-off semi-final, followed by a defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties (4-3) after a draw in the final.
Globally, Spain maintained its No. 1 position, followed by Argentina, France, and England.
Brazil jumped two spots to fifth, displacing Portugal (now sixth) and the Netherlands (seventh). Belgium remained eighth, with Germany and Croatia completing the top 10.
