Argentine Footballer Enzo Pittau Dies on Pitch Hours After Sharing Poignant Message
Argentine footballer Enzo Pittau, 35, has died after collapsing on the pitch during a match in Machagai, sending shockwaves through the local football community.
The tragedy unfolded during a Chaco Federation tournament game between Don Orione and Club Union, with Pittau falling suddenly to the ground 41 minutes into play. Spectators described a scene of chaos and heartbreak as players and fans tried to make sense of the incident.
Pittau was rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle, but doctors were unable to save him. Local outlet Hechos y Derecho confirmed his death was the result of cardiac arrest.
Don Orione Club issued a statement expressing their sorrow:
“With deep pain, we communicate the death of Enzo Pittau. We are shocked and affected by this loss. We appreciate your solidarity and understanding in this difficult time for our club and Enzo Pittau’s family.”
Pittau had only recently returned to Argentina following a stint playing football in Europe. Those who witnessed the event were left visibly shaken.
“I was watching the match when he suddenly fell,” a spectator told Diario Chaco. “Everything turned into chaos. People were running and screaming. We didn’t understand what was happening it was horrible.”
Another witness recalled: “I can’t get the image out of my head. It’s devastating. We’re not used to this in football it’s a deep pain.”
The match was ultimately suspended following the incident.
Hauntingly, just hours before the game, Pittau had shared a message on social media that read: “The faith and God in between. Today we play with soul and life.”
That message now hangs heavy in the hearts of many, a final reflection from a player remembered for his spirit both on and off the pitch.
