The Sunrisers Leeds advanced to the knockout stage of The Hundred following a decisive 41-run victory over the Manchester Super Giants at Old Trafford. Set a target of 167, the Super Giants struggled significantly in the heat and never mounted a serious challenge.
Jess Jonassen led the Sunrisers’ bowling effort with figures of 3-21, removing key players Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, and Meg Lanning. Despite a 31-run contribution from Grace Scrivens, the Super Giants could not maintain the required pace. In an unusual tactical move, Kathryn Bryce was retired out while on 15, marking her second time facing such a dismissal in the tournament.
Earlier, the Sunrisers posted a competitive 166-4. Annabel Sutherland anchored the innings with an undefeated 62 off 36 balls, supported by Phoebe Litchfield’s rapid 27 and captain Dani Gibson’s 24. Mady Villiers was the most effective bowler for the Super Giants, taking 2-25.
With this win, the Sunrisers climb into the top three and are scheduled to compete against the Southern Brave in the Eliminator at The Oval this Friday. The victors of that match will progress to the final at Lord’s against the Trent Rockets.
