Ben Duckett secured an unbeaten 52 as the Trent Rockets comfortably defeated the Welsh Fire by nine wickets at Sophia Gardens. This victory marks the Rockets’ second win in three matches during the current Hundred campaign.
Chasing a target of 123, the Rockets were propelled by a strong 75-run opening stand between Duckett and Finn Allen, who contributed a quick 33 off 19 deliveries. Despite Allen’s dismissal by Rachin Ravindra, Duckett remained composed, reaching his 50th run in 43 balls. The Fire struggled with their discipline, conceding seven free hits, which allowed the Rockets to reach their goal with 28 balls remaining, supported by a rapid 31 from Tom Banton.
Earlier, the Welsh Fire posted a modest 122-7. Matt Henry struck early to dismiss Phil Salt and Joe Root, leaving the home side struggling. Matt Short provided some resistance with 36 runs, and Jordan Cox added a late spark with three consecutive sixes off Mitchell Santner. However, Santner quickly responded by removing Cox, ending the innings with impressive figures of 3-35. This win completed a successful day for the Trent Rockets organization, following a victory by their women’s side earlier in the day.
