The Sokoto State administration has issued a strict warning against the hoarding, resale, or diversion of agricultural fertiliser provided to local farmers. This directive coincides with the ongoing distribution of free farm supplies initiated by Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
During a recent event in Kebbe Local Government Area, officials received 3,600 bags of fertiliser transported via six trucks. Retired Colonel Garba Moyi Isa, who leads the local distribution committee, stated that the initiative aims to boost food production and enhance the economic stability of farmers before the 2026 wet season. To ensure fairness, each of the area’s 124 polling units is slated to receive 15 bags of NPK and five bags of Urea.
Colonel Isa emphasized that the inputs are provided at no cost. He warned that any individual caught manipulating the supply chain would face severe consequences. The committee has established a monitoring system involving security agencies and community leaders to prevent abuse. Hon. Musa Garba Kuchi, the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government, echoed these sentiments, explicitly forbidding middlemen and traders from interfering with the distribution. He urged all recipients to utilize the fertiliser effectively to increase their crop yields and support the state’s broader goals for food security.
