Sokoto residents obstruct major road to protest persistent bandit violence

Sokoto residents blocked the Bodinga-Sokoto highway to protest against fresh bandit attacks that have caused deaths, displacement, and missing persons across several communities.

On Friday, inhabitants of the Bodinga Local Government Area in Sokoto State organized a demonstration, obstructing the Bodinga-Sokoto highway to call for immediate state action against a recent wave of bandit raids. The protest erupted after reports surfaced detailing lethal assaults, the displacement of numerous families, and the disappearance of several individuals.

Conflict reporter Bakatsine noted on social media that the demonstrators criticized the government for its perceived inability to secure local regions. According to these accounts, the violence caused widespread displacement, with many families struggling to locate relatives separated during the turmoil. Bakatsine shared footage depicting citizens fleeing their homes on foot to escape the threat.

Reports identify the villages of Danchadi, Dabagi, Karaje, and Taƙule as key targets of the armed incursions, where residents were compelled to evacuate. Survivors described harrowing experiences, including one woman who reported the death of her spouse during the raid. Fearing further violence, villagers from Zango, Biri, Illela, Horo, Danbaro, and surrounding areas have also abandoned their homes. To date, both the Sokoto State Government and relevant security services have remained silent regarding these developments.
