Guardians of students attending the Federal Government College Staff School in Sokoto have expressed deep concern regarding the low wages of instructors, noting that some veterans with two decades of service remain underpaid. During their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, the Parent-Teacher Association formally requested a salary adjustment to 100,000 Naira monthly, plus a 30,000 Naira lesson allowance.
PTA Chairman Jamilu Sidi emphasized that better compensation is vital for maintaining high teaching standards and student achievement. He cautioned that substandard pay often leads to reduced productivity. Sidi also highlighted ongoing frustrations regarding a lack of financial transparency and frequent tuition hikes, noting that salaries have only risen by a marginal 5,000 Naira to reach the current 60,000 Naira level.
Beyond staff welfare, the PTA requested infrastructure repairs, specifically pointing to the deteriorating roads on campus. Headteacher Chivuzor David acknowledged the feedback and highlighted the recent installation of a solar-powered borehole to resolve water shortages. He subsequently asked the association to support a similar energy project for the nursery section. Board Chairman Sulaiman Ibrahim concluded the event by pledging to present these collective concerns to school leadership for prompt review.
