Shettima Mandates Immediate Flood Readiness Measures

Vice President Kashim Shettima has ordered the immediate activation of the Fusion and Trigger Room concept to enhance Nigeria’s proactive response to seasonal flooding, calling for faster resource deployment and stronger state-level collaboration.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has initiated the Fusion and Trigger Room framework to bolster Nigeria’s defenses against imminent seasonal flooding. During an Anticipatory Action Task Force (AATF) meeting at the Presidential Villa, he signaled a strategic pivot from reactive crisis management to proactive disaster preparedness.

Senator Shettima instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and associated bodies to refine their budgets and clarify implementation priorities immediately. He emphasized that administrative bottlenecks must not hinder the deployment of funds, stating that resources must be ready precisely when needed to mitigate potential damage. The Vice President stressed that state-level participation is vital for these measures to succeed.

Dr. Bernard Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, praised the government’s financial commitment, advocating for centralized coordination through digital platforms. United Nations Resident Coordinator Mohamed Fall lauded the effort as a significant model for the African continent, noting that preventive investment saves lives and protects livelihoods. NEMA Director General Zubaida Abubakar Umar confirmed that the agency is already focusing on high-risk areas using early warning data. This initiative follows the National Economic Council’s recent approval of an 83.2 billion naira intervention fund.
