Severe Flooding Displaces Residents in Isashi and Ojo Communities

Intense rainfall has caused significant flooding across several Lagos communities, forcing residents to evacuate homes and appeal to the government for help.

Torrential rains lasting three days have left various neighborhoods in Isashi, Iba Local Council Development Area, Okokomaiko, and Ojo underwater, prompting numerous citizens to flee their properties. Many families have sought temporary shelter with friends or relatives due to the extensive inundation of their homes.

Joel Ubah, a resident of James Kunle Street in Isashi, is one of several homeowners calling on the Lagos State Government to take immediate action. Ubah recently finished construction on his four-bedroom home in April 2025, moving in shortly thereafter, but the structure is now filled with water. He identified blocked canals and the ongoing sand-filling of the bridge and waterway at Obadore as primary contributors to the disaster, warning that continued rainfall could lead to structural failure for many houses in the area.

Local reports indicate that James Kunle Street, located within Light Estate, and Oluwaseyi Street have become impassable. The remaining entry point for these streets is currently obstructed by a downed electricity pole, which fell during the severe weather event.
