The Plateau State Government has issued a firm condemnation following the mob-related death of Ibrahim Mbaya, a graduate from the University of Jos. Officials labeled the incident as an unacceptable act of jungle justice that defies the standards of a peaceful society.
Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, expressed the state’s deep sorrow over the tragedy. The victim was reportedly assaulted by a crowd in Jos due to accusations involving a stolen mobile phone. The government emphasized that human life is inherently valuable and that individuals are prohibited from acting as judge and executioner.
While authorities are still looking into the incident, officials voiced concern that an unverified claim led to such a lethal outcome. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang conveyed his sympathies to the victim’s family, the university community, and the people of Borno State.
The administration is urging the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a swift and fair investigation.
