Seun Kuti, the youngest child of Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, has refuted claims that he abandoned Peller’s wedding ceremony in a fit of rage. Social media reports had suggested he departed the event abruptly after an MC joked about the ongoing debate regarding whether Wizkid’s musical influence surpasses that of Fela.
The speculation was fueled by a clip showing Seun saying, “We are in the wrong place,” as he exited the venue. This led to online criticism, with one of the event’s MCs suggesting that the musician struggled with anger management.
Addressing the matter while speaking to Fuji musician Malaika at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, Seun clarified that his departure was purely due to scheduling conflicts. He explained that he remained at the wedding until approximately 8:30 pm before heading to a scheduled event at the Shrine. He dismissed the rumors, questioning if he was expected to remain dancing when he had a prior commitment elsewhere.
The public sensitivity surrounding this topic stems from a January 2026 dispute, during which Wizkid asserted he had surpassed Fela in stature, causing significant division among public figures in Nigeria.
