Scarlets Recruit New Zealand U20 Lock Tom Allen

The Scarlets have added New Zealand U20 lock Tom Allen to their roster, marking their seventh signing of the summer as they prepare for the new United Rugby Championship season.

The Scarlets have secured the signature of Tom Allen, a former New Zealand Under-20 lock who joins from the Super Rugby Pacific champions, the Hurricanes. The 21-year-old talent, who also played for Auckland in the National Provincial Championship, made two substitute appearances for the Hurricanes during their recent championship-winning season. Allen expressed deep enthusiasm regarding his move, citing the club’s reputation and playing style as key factors in his decision to develop his career in Wales.

Standing 6ft 6in, the former Hastings Boys’ High School pupil stated his admiration for the club’s traditions and fervent fanbase. Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies praised the signing, highlighting Allen’s ambition and his background in a premier player development system as major assets for the team. This addition marks the seventh recruitment for the Scarlets this summer, joining other new arrivals like Cullen Grace and Isaac Murray-Macgregor.

The club has been active in bolstering its roster, having also signed Corey Domachowski, John McKee, George Roberts, and Harvey Cuckson. Following a 14th-place finish in the United Rugby Championship last season, the Scarlets are preparing for their upcoming campaign, which opens on September 26 against Cardiff.
