Ryan Garner realized a long-held ambition in his hometown of Southampton, securing the WBC interim super-featherweight title with a decisive victory over Michael Magnesi. Before a roaring crowd of over 10,000 at St Mary’s Stadium, the 28-year-old fighter controlled the rhythm of the bout with aggressive tactics and consistent output.
The judges unanimously awarded the fight to Garner after 12 rounds, with scores of 116-112, 118-110, and 119-109. This victory keeps Garner’s professional record perfect at 20 wins and establishes him as the primary challenger for O’Shaquie Foster, who holds the full WBC championship.
Garner acknowledged the difficulty of the contest, labeling Magnesi a relentless opponent. Throughout the fight, both boxers engaged in high-tempo exchanges, but Garner consistently landed the more impactful strikes, notably in the second, fourth, and ninth rounds. Although Magnesi briefly stunned the hometown favorite with a right hand in the 10th round, Garner successfully navigated the closing stages to secure his win.
Other local fighters also found success on the card. Lewis Edmondson captured the vacant WBA international light-heavyweight title by defeating Lyndon Arthur, while undefeated prospect Taylor Bevan earned a majority decision win against Ryszard Lewicki. Additionally, Bradley Goldsmith secured the IBF international middleweight belt by overcoming Brad Pauls.
