Record Ticket Costs
For the first time in Rugby World Cup history, premium seating for the final will surpass the £1,000 threshold. Supporters looking to attend the 13 November championship match at Sydney’s Stadium Australia will face a price of A$1,950, which converts to approximately £1,035.
This cost represents a notable increase from previous tournaments. The most expensive ticket for the 2023 final in France was priced at 950 euros, or about £823 today. Earlier iterations saw significantly lower peaks, with Japan 2019 priced at £717 and England 2015 at £715.
Organizers Defend Strategy
Tournament officials maintain that these high-end prices are necessary to facilitate broader accessibility. Chris Stanley, the managing director for the 2027 tournament, explained that charging more for premium seats allows organizers to offer over a million tickets for under A$100. The tournament features affordable entry points, with adult tickets starting at A$40 and child tickets at A$20, excluding the semi-finals and final.
Booking Details
Unlike dynamic pricing models used in other sports, the Rugby World Cup employs set pricing for its inventory. Currently, Ireland’s pool matches against Portugal, Scotland, and Uruguay are listed as high demand. Fans have until 2 June to apply for tickets, with a ballot system in place for oversubscribed matches. Successful applicants will receive notification by 23 June.
