A series of Russian drone and missile attacks against the port city of Odesa have claimed three lives. Oleh Kiper, the regional governor, confirmed the incident, noting this marks five consecutive days of Russian military activity in the area.
Kiper stated that a projectile impacted a high-rise apartment complex, resulting in both fatalities and injuries. Additional damage was reported to a gas pipeline and a non-residential building. The Russian Ministry of Defence maintained that its forces aimed at port facilities, specifically targeting infrastructure utilized for oil and lubricant storage. Russia further claimed to have struck locations associated with military production and cargo transit.
These strikes on the Odesa region target vital deepwater ports essential to Ukraine’s wartime economy and grain exports. Conversely, Ukraine reported successful drone strikes against 20 Russian vessels in the Black Sea, escalating tensions in the maritime region. Amid these developments, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Kyiv to discuss defense industry collaboration, while the Ukrainian government continues to manage internal political changes, including the recent resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
