The Bannsiders conceded two goals in the first half from Liam Moller and Pyry Mentu, followed by a second-half goal from Toivo Mero and two quick strikes by Teemu Pukki.
Higgins acknowledged that the squad played a significant role in their own misfortune, citing poor timing and defensive errors as primary reasons for the lopsided result. Despite facing a difficult path in the return leg, the manager refused to blame the team’s lack of match fitness or the superior conditioning of their opponents.
The defeat was compounded by significant injuries to Aidan Wilson and Mark Coyle, leaving the team looking disjointed. Higgins noted that the squad had limited preparation time but emphasized that the players must learn quickly from these defensive lapses to improve their performance in upcoming fixtures.
