A Port Harcourt Federal High Court has dismissed a legal challenge aimed at overturning Dumo Lulu-Briggs’ position as the Nigeria Democratic Congress governorship candidate. The suit was initiated by Kings Unyeawaji, an NDC aspirant who claimed he was unfairly blocked from participating in the party’s primary election.
During the proceedings, Lulu-Briggs’ legal representative, Ibim Dokubo, argued that the court lacked jurisdiction because the plaintiff had no legal standing, given his absence from the primary contest. Furthermore, the defense pointed out that the lawsuit exceeded the 14-day statutory limit for election-related complaints. Upon hearing the arguments, the plaintiff’s attorney moved to withdraw the case. Justice Muhammed Turaki subsequently struck out the suit after the defendants offered no objection.
Lulu-Briggs expressed his appreciation for the resolution and encouraged political opponents to prioritize peace heading into the 2027 election cycle. He emphasized the need for a fair competition and urged all stakeholders to respect the electoral outcome.
