The 27-year-old earned a score of 14.500, displaying impressive execution that delighted the crowd at the Glasgow International Arena. Despite his polished appearance, McClenaghan admitted feeling nerves due to the weight of expectations surrounding his comeback. He successfully outscored his previous performances from earlier this year, signaling that his new routine is steadily progressing toward his top form.
While his score remains below the 15.533 personal best he achieved at the Paris Olympics, his precision currently places him in a strong position for Monday’s final. Scotland’s Reuben Ward and Canada’s Jordan Carroll secured the top two spots with slightly higher difficulty scores, but McClenaghan remains confident that minor adjustments to his arm tension and balance will allow for an even stronger display in the medal round.
The Newtownards native did face a setback on the floor, failing to reach the final after a stumble on his dismount. However, he remains focused on the pommel horse event, where he aims to secure another gold medal to add to his storied career achievements.
