Resilient Warrington edge past Catalans despite injury setbacks

Despite losing Arron Lindop and Josh Thewlis to injury, Warrington secured a hard-fought win over Catalans to move level at the top of the Super League.

Warrington secured a vital Super League victory against Catalans at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, moving level on points with Leeds Rhinos at the top of the table. Sam Burgess’s team overcame significant adversity, losing both Arron Lindop and Josh Thewlis to injuries during the match.

Matty Ashton provided an early spark for the Wolves, scoring the opening try. However, momentum shifted when the Dragons responded with scores from Zac Lipowicz and Nick Cotric to take a lead into the second half. Warrington’s backline was forced to reorganize after losing personnel, with teenager Ewan Irwin stepping into the full-back role.

The second half saw a determined effort from the hosts. Albert Hopoate reclaimed the lead with a powerful finish before James Bentley extended the advantage. Irwin was instrumental, successfully converting all three of his attempts and delivering a decisive try-saving tackle on Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet in the closing moments to deny the French side a comeback victory. The win serves as an important recovery for Warrington following their previous loss to the Rhinos.
