Mohammed Lawal, who manages Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, recently clarified the reasons behind the player’s recent absence from the sport. According to reports from the DAILY POST, the goalkeeper sought to end his deal with the South African team Chippa United this past February.
Although Nwabali, 30, aimed to join a different squad for the rest of the season, a transfer did not materialize. The professional athlete faced significant personal grief after the consecutive deaths of his mother, father, and grandmother in just one month. Lawal emphasized that the former Enyimba player struggled immensely during this period, which prompted his initial request to depart from the club.
Speaking to ESPN, Lawal noted that the public often overlooks the humanity of athletes, viewing them only as performers on the pitch rather than people navigating life’s hardships. Chippa United confirmed that Nwabali officially rejoined the team last week.
