Haeran Ryu Secures Maiden Major Title at Women’s PGA Championship

South Korean golfer Haeran Ryu claimed her first major championship victory at the Women’s PGA Championship, overcoming a difficult start to win by two strokes.

Haeran Ryu captured her first major victory at the Women’s PGA Championship, finishing two shots ahead of the field. This win marks a significant milestone for the 25-year-old, who previously held three LPGA Tour titles. Despite a rocky start to her final round that included three bogeys across the initial five holes, she recovered brilliantly to card a two-under-par round. She finished the tournament at 13-under, securing a $1.95m prize from the event’s record-breaking $13m purse.

Reflecting on her achievement at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota, Ryu expressed disbelief, noting that winning a major felt like a dream realized after several prior attempts. Her victory is particularly noteworthy given her position after the first round, where she sat tied for 70th place and ten strokes behind the leaders. Ina Yoon of South Korea finished in second place at 11-under, while Brooke Henderson and Dewi Weber tied for third at 10-under. Notably, Nelly Korda, who aimed for a third consecutive major title, ended the event in a tie for eighth place.
