Reports suggest Jeff Bezos in discussions regarding Liverpool stake

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly in talks to join a group led by Amit Bhatia that is considering a minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.

Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos has reportedly engaged in conversations about joining a consortium spearheaded by Amit Bhatia to acquire a minority stake in Liverpool FC. While Sky News highlighted the interest of the 62-year-old entrepreneur, it remains unclear if he will move forward with the acquisition. Forbes currently estimates Bezos’ net worth at approximately £192 billion.

Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool, confirmed that a group led by Bhatia—the son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal—has inquired about a minority investment. Previously, Bezos weighed potential purchases of the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders but ultimately opted not to follow through. Bhatia recently concluded his 18-year tenure with Queens Park Rangers by transferring his stake to Ruben Gnanalingam.

Should a deal be finalized, it is expected to mirror the 2023 transaction where FSG sold a portion of the club to the investment firm Dynasty. According to the Financial Times, such an arrangement would place the total valuation of the English club at upwards of $6 billion. FSG originally purchased Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million.
