Consortium linked to Jeff Bezos progresses negotiations for Liverpool minority stake

A consortium featuring Jeff Bezos and Eduardo Saverin is in advanced talks to purchase a 30% minority interest in Liverpool Football Club.

A group of investors, which includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is moving forward with discussions to acquire a 30% share in Liverpool Football Club. The consortium is headed by British-Indian entrepreneur Amit Bhatia and counts Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin among its members.

Fenway Sports Group, the club’s current owner, previously acknowledged that the group had shown interest in securing a strategic minority position. Bhatia, who is related to Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently concluded an 18-year tenure as a director and co-owner at Queens Park Rangers.

Jeff Bezos, currently recognized as the fourth-wealthiest individual globally, holds a fortune estimated by Forbes at $256bn (£192bn). Fenway Sports Group acquired the Premier League club for £300m in 2010 and has previously offloaded a smaller portion of the club to the investment firm Dynasty Equity.
