Real Madrid: UEFA Probes Rudiger, Mbappe, Ceballos, And Vinicius Jr For ‘Indecent Conduct’
Real Madrid stars Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, Dani Ceballos, and Vinícius Júnior are under investigation by UEFA for their conduct following their Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid.
The reigning Champions League holders won the fiercely contested last-16 tie on penalties, with a controversial decision ruling out Julián Álvarez’s penalty after officials determined he had touched the ball twice.
Rüdiger scored the decisive penalty, securing a quarter-final clash against Arsenal.
The Real Madrid quartet is now being investigated over allegations of indecent conduct during post-match celebrations.
Television footage appeared to show Rüdiger making a throat-cutting gesture toward the crowd, while Mbappé was seemingly seen grabbing his crotch.
UEFA has appointed an independent special inspector to review the incidents, with most of the evidence expected to come from video footage.
According to Sky Sports, a fine is considered more likely than a ban.
In 2019, UEFA fined Cristiano Ronaldo €20,000 (£16,665) for improper conduct after making an obscene gesture while celebrating a goal for Juventus against Atlético Madrid. Atlético’s head coach, Diego Simeone, was also fined the same amount for making a similar gesture during the first leg.
It remains unclear if UEFA will reach a decision before the first leg of Real Madrid’s quarter-final clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on April 8. The return leg will take place eight days later in Madrid.
