Tobi Amusan Clinches Fifth Straight National 100m Hurdles Title in Lagos

Tobi Amusan has clinched her fifth national title in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials, held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.

The 28-year-old, who holds the world record in the event, clocked 12.57 seconds to secure victory ahead of Adaobi Tabugbo (13.03s) and Faith Osamuyi (13.36s). The win reinforces her dominance as she gears up for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.

In the men’s 400m, Gafar Badmus claimed gold in 45.71s, finishing ahead of Ezekiel Asuquo (46.29s) and David Akhalu (46.91s).

The women’s 400m saw a major upset after veteran Patience Okon-George was disqualified, allowing African U-20 champion Favour Onyah to seize victory in 52.69s. Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna followed in second and third.

In the women’s 100m, African U-20 champion Chioma Nweke stormed to her first national title in 11.27s, dethroning Olayinka Olajide, who finished second in 11.39s, while Iyanuoluwa Bada placed third with 11.45s.
