Radio Personality Paul Gambaccini Reveals Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

Veteran radio presenter Paul Gambaccini, 77, has shared his Alzheimer’s diagnosis but plans to continue his broadcasting career.

Longtime radio host Paul Gambaccini has announced that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. The 77-year-old broadcaster, who works for both BBC Radio 2 and Greatest Hits Radio, confirmed the diagnosis occurred in 2025.

Reflecting on the news, Gambaccini noted that while the condition is serious and presents an uncertain future, he intends to maintain his professional routine. He expressed a desire to continue hosting his programs, stating his gratitude for the support he has received while asking for the space to keep sharing music with his audience. Both the BBC and Greatest Hits Radio have expressed their full support for his decision to continue broadcasting.

Born in New York City, Gambaccini began his career in journalism and college radio before joining BBC Radio 1 in 1973. Often referred to as “The Professor of Pop,” his extensive career includes work across various BBC stations and Classic FM. He was inducted into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame in 2005. The Alzheimer’s Society praised his openness, noting that his journey highlights the possibility of continuing a meaningful life after a dementia diagnosis.
