Race Across the World champion faces car break-in and laptop theft before school talk

Race Across the World winner Alfie Watts had his car broken into and his laptop stolen in Cardiff, marking his third recent experience with theft while traveling for school talks.

Alfie Watts, the 22-year-old winner of the fourth series of the BBC’s Race Across the World, has expressed significant frustration after his car was targeted by thieves in Cardiff. While he was preparing for a school tour aimed at promoting mental health and resilience, an individual shattered a vehicle window and took his laptop, a sports racquet, and a packet of sweets.

Watts, who is currently visiting 35 schools throughout the UK to encourage students, mentioned that he had only left his car unattended for about 20 minutes at Howard Place. Fortunately, his presentation materials were backed up online, allowing his scheduled school visits to proceed as planned on Wednesday. This incident marks the third time the Hatfield resident has been a victim of theft recently; he previously had his phone stolen in London and his former laptop taken in Santiago, Chile.

Despite these setbacks, Watts noted that he experienced no such criminal issues while travelling over 9,300 miles during his successful race with partner Owen Wood. South Wales Police confirmed they are reviewing local CCTV footage, though no suspects have been identified at this time. Watts, who recently raised £50,000 for the charity Young Minds, remains committed to his tour, emphasizing that these difficult experiences are part of the reality he chooses to share with his audience.
