Queen Mary of Denmark Visits APM Terminals Apapa
As part of her official visit to Nigeria, Queen Mary of Denmark paid a visit to APM Terminals Apapa on Wednesday, spotlighting her advocacy for gender equality and sustainable development.
In a statement issued Thursday, the terminal operator confirmed the Queen was welcomed by APMT Nigeria CEO, Frederik Klinke, and Terminal Manager, Steen Knudsen, alongside the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Ole Bach Hansen.
A known advocate for women’s rights and environmental protection, Queen Mary’s first stop was with the terminal’s female equipment operators—highlighting her commitment to amplifying the roles of women in industries traditionally dominated by men.
During the tour, Knudsen shared insights into APMT’s gender diversity initiatives. “Creating opportunities for women in roles such as truck driving and mechanical maintenance is central to our operations in Nigeria,” he said. “We also discussed leadership development and international exposure for local staff.”
Knudsen added that Nigeria remains a key market for APM Terminals, with operations in both Apapa and Onne. “We’re committed to investing in infrastructure that supports sustainable growth, enhances job creation, and connects Nigeria more efficiently to global trade routes.”
