Police Operatives Recover Unexploded Bomb On Borno Farmland
The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded ordnance (UXO) from a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, noting that the discovery followed a report by one Babagana Kachalla, who sighted a suspicious object on his farmland.
On receiving the alert, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 team from Maiduguri to the site.
“The UXO, identified as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring about 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width, was found partially buried,” the statement said.
According to Daso, the area was cordoned off in line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols, and the team carried out an in-situ demolition before extracting the cluster munitions plates.
The PPRO said the operation was completed without incident, adding that members of the community were sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA) to improve safety knowledge in handling similar discoveries.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects or activities to the nearest police station.
