Law enforcement officers in Ogun State have successfully freed five Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapade, students who were seized by armed individuals from a private off-campus residence. The Students’ Union Government initially reported the kidnapping on July 29, 2026, noting the incident took place at approximately 7:45 p.m.
State Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi verified that the victims have been rescued. This success was also acknowledged in a Thursday statement from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council and the National Association of Ogun State Students. They expressed relief that the students returned safely, concluding a period of intense concern for their families and peers.
The student organizations commended the collaborative efforts of the police, Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes. They also encouraged students to stay alert and assist in maintaining security within their communities. This recovery followed a 72-hour ultimatum issued by NANS, which had threatened protests if the authorities failed to locate the students within that timeframe.
