Police Rescue One-Week-Old Baby Sold For N1.7 Million In Anambra
A team of operatives from the Anambra State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, has rescued a one-week-old baby girl who was allegedly sold for N1.7 million.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, revealing that the baby’s mother who reportedly received N350,000 and three other women suspected to be involved in the sale and purchase were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Elizabeth Okafor (62), Esther Nweke (48), and Ngozi Maanfa (45).
Ikenga said police operatives stormed a location known as Mama Maternity in Ifite-Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area, following credible intelligence that led to the rescue.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet investigation.
