A recent security operation in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State resulted in the liberation of nine kidnapped individuals. However, the mission ended in tragedy with the loss of two police officers.
The Kaduna State Police Command stated that the rescue followed intelligence regarding the abduction of farmers in Unguwan Sa’idu village on June 24. DSP Mansir Hassan, the command spokesperson, noted that a joint force comprising the Police Mobile Force and the Kaduna Vigilance Service confronted the armed bandits. The security team successfully overpowered the criminals, causing them to retreat into the surrounding bush and abandon the hostages.
As the security forces were departing the area, they were caught in an ambush staged by militants. During the ensuing confrontation, two policemen suffered fatal injuries. CP Rabiu Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State, honored the fallen officers as heroes for their bravery in the line of duty. Authorities have confirmed that investigations and tactical maneuvers are currently underway to capture those responsible for the ambush.
