Jigawa Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Ex-Wife in Ambush Attack

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Iliyasu Musa, for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Hadiza Sale.

Police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam, in a statement released on Thursday, July 24, 2025, said the incident occurred on July 10, when Musa ambushed the 30-year-old victim near her home in Afasha Village and struck her on the head with a stick as she returned from the market late at night.

The former couple had six children together. Following the attack, Musa reportedly fled and had been evading arrest for nearly two weeks.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives from the Aujara Divisional Headquarters apprehended the suspect on July 23 at Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village, where he had been hiding.

“On Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, at about 1500hrs, operatives attached to Aujara Divisional Police Headquarters recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of one Iliyasu Musa ‘m’ age 40yrs of Dangewaye Village, Aujara District, who has been on the Command’s wanted list in connection with a case of culpable homicide,” the statement read.

“The suspect had been evading arrest since 10th July 2025, when he allegedly k!lled his former wife, one Hadiza Sale ‘f’ age 30yrs of Afasha Village, with a stick, under circumstances that shocked the community.

“Following intensive intelligence-led surveillance and tactical deployment, the suspect was finally apprehended at Larabar-Tambarin-Gwani village where he had been hiding since he committed the offence.

“According to preliminary investigations, the suspect set up an ambush near the house’s wife in the middle of the night and hit her on the head with a stick as she returned from the market. Information shows that the couple survived with six (6) children.

“The suspect is undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse prior to his prosecution in court.”
