Law enforcement in Nigeria successfully brought home two teenage girls, Victoria, 16, and Comfort, 17, who had been coerced into sex work in Ivory Coast. The pair had originally been trafficked from Ogoja in Cross River State after being misled with false promises of employment. Upon their return, they reported enduring significant abuse and exploitation during their time abroad. Officers from the Ogoja Divisional Headquarters managed the rescue and repatriation efforts.
In a related incident, police intercepted two additional teenagers who were being moved from Ogoja toward Ivory Coast via Lagos. This quick response prevented them from falling victim to the same trafficking network. Mrs. Christy Asari Agbeh, wife of the Ogoja Local Government Council chairman, strongly denounced these criminal acts. She praised the police for their work and mandated medical screenings for the rescued girls at the General Hospital in Ogoja to begin their recovery process.
Agbeh emphasized the importance of community awareness and requested that parents and local leaders monitor for suspicious activity. She further cautioned youths against accepting unverifiable overseas job offers. The local government remains committed to working with security agencies to ensure child safety and bring human traffickers to justice.
