Police Inspector Slain in Attack on Benue Security Post

A police inspector was killed when suspected armed herders attacked a joint security checkpoint in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, prompting an intense security response.

A police officer lost his life during an assault on a joint security checkpoint located in Uzer, a community within the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. Authorities believe the raid was executed by armed herders.

The offensive triggered an immediate response from military personnel belonging to Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke, based in Ayilamo, alongside a mobile police unit. Upon the arrival of these reinforcements, the attackers retreated into the surrounding brush. Security forces initiated a search mission to locate the gunmen and stabilize the region.

During this search, the team discovered the body of a Police Inspector who had been killed during the initial ambush. The victim’s remains were transported to the Ayilamo Hospital mortuary for medical evaluation. DSP Peter Aondongu, the Benue State Police spokesperson, verified the fatality and stated that efforts to apprehend those responsible remain active. Consequently, authorities have increased patrols throughout Uzer, Ayilamo, and adjacent border villages.
