The Benue State Police Command has successfully located and rescued a newborn infant who was snatched from his mother at a Gboko medical center. Authorities confirmed that several individuals have been taken into custody regarding the crime.
DSP Peter Aondona, the spokesperson for the state police, reported that the rescue occurred early Thursday morning. The case, which began at the Gboko A Division Police Station, was later moved to the Criminal Investigation Department for a more thorough review. Aondona noted that while suspects are currently being held, the final count of those arrested will be released in due course.
The infant, born on August 11, was taken by a person posing as a nurse only hours after his birth. The imposter approached the mother under the guise of performing a routine checkup. After the mother entrusted her child to the woman, the suspect fled toward the labor room, leading to the child’s disappearance. This event sparked significant alarm at the hospital, requiring local security intervention.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the details surrounding the abduction. The newborn has been safely returned to his mother.
