Police Arrest Four Over Murder of Commercial Motorcyclist in Ondo State
Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the armed robbery and killing of 25-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Nwike Sabbat, in Ondo town.
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal said the assailants shot Sabbat, stole his motorcycle and other valuables, and fled. Acting on intelligence, detectives from the Yaba Division arrested Adeife Adewumi, a native of Idanre residing in Ibadan, who was found with the stolen motorcycle.
His arrest led to the capture of Johnson Mathew and Disu Sunday in Ilara-Mokin, who confessed to participating in the crime. Police recovered two locally fabricated cut-to-size guns, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge from them.
Further investigation led to the arrest of an 87-year-old man, identified as the Chief Kogbona of Odole Street in Idanre, alleged to be the gang’s arms supplier. A search of his residence uncovered 10 live cartridges linking him to the syndicate.
Lawal confirmed that all suspects are in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Akure, and will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded. He assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang still at large.
