Police Arrest 30-Year-Old for Fatal Stabbing in Kebbi Over Argument
The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old man in connection with the killing of Auwal Umaru from Katami village in Silami Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a statement released Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Nafi’u Abubakar, the police received a distress report around 8:00 a.m. on July 21, indicating that a man was found lying in a pool of blood behind Birnin Kebbi’s Central Market.
Following the alert, officers from the Central Market Division, alongside local vigilantes, arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical professional.
Based on actionable intelligence, the police arrested one Bello Amakwa, a 30-year-old resident of Birnin Kebbi, in connection with the incident. During initial questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to stabbing the victim in the neck with a knife during a heated argument around 2:30 a.m.
The weapon used in the crime was recovered, according to the police.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the act and urged young people to avoid violence and seek peaceful means of resolving disputes. He has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
