Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), was taken into custody by police in Osun State. The arrest occurred shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his detention.
A specialized team from the Federal Investigation Department and the IRT, headed by Moses Lohor, conducted the operation at a village in Ijesaland. Adeyemi had been under surveillance by the Department of State Services for several days before the police took over the case. He is currently being transported to Abuja.
The arrest follows Adeyemi’s repeated failure to attend court for his arraignment on an eight-count charge involving fraud, forgery, and impersonation. Justice Umar noted that the defendant had missed four consecutive court appearances, prompting the issuance of the warrant for his appearance on September 30.
Adeyemi has consistently denied the allegations, claiming that he has been avoiding public appearances due to threats against his life. He also alleged that he paid N400 million to secure his position. Police investigations suggest the PFIPC is a non-existent agency and that official documents were forged to lend it legitimacy. The controversy has deepened with calls from figures like Atiku Abubakar for an independent investigation into allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
