The Plateau State House of Assembly has confirmed its support for the establishment of state-level police forces, promising to prioritize the legislation as soon as it is submitted. Speaker Naanlong Daniel provided this commitment on Thursday in Jos while hosting the Plateau State Advisory Committee on State Police, which is chaired by former Deputy Inspector General of Police Habila Joshak.
Daniel stated that the legislature views local policing as an essential solution to the persistent security problems in Plateau and the broader nation. He emphasized that the assembly has long supported this initiative and will promptly approve the bill upon arrival. The Speaker also expressed appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to national security, promising that the House will provide all required legislative support to ensure the proposal succeeds.
Habila Joshak noted that the ongoing security crises in Plateau make the implementation of state police a critical move to improve local intelligence, law enforcement efficiency, and public trust. He encouraged the lawmakers to remain committed to the process, asserting that community-level policing would significantly bolster current security frameworks. Joshak also expressed hope that Plateau’s efforts would serve as a model for other states throughout the country.
